An investment in a j’Tote Designer Laptop Bag reveals your excellent taste and flair for style. On this page, we’ll provide you with some DO’s and DON’T’s to best care for your laptop’s fashionable home away from home.
Leather is known for its durability and can last a lifetime with the proper care. With a minimum amount of hassle, you can maintain the beauty of your leather tote.
Here are some suggestions from j’Tote designer, Anna Vahey Casey, to extend the life of your leather bag.
WHAT TO DO
With the Melania, Maeve, Aoife, and Saoirse bags, use a dampened cheesecloth and apply a small amount of leather conditioning cream several times a year. This facilitates the durability and shine of the leather and increases its beauty. Conditioning your leather is especially important if you live in a dry environment in order to prevent drying out and cracking.
That’s easy enough. Now onto the longer list.
WHAT NOT TO DO
Expose your j’Tote leather laptop bag to conditions that could cause your bag to dry out (prolonged sun exposure) or swell or mildew (contact with moisture). The leather has not been treated with a water repellent, therefore it is important to attempt to keep it out of the rain. If your bag becomes wet, wipe it dry as soon as possible.
j’Tote leather bags should not be stored in plastic bags or other nonporous covers as this type of environment encourages the growth of mildew and bacteria that can ruin the leather.
Whenever possible, avoid placing light colors next to dark colors as this can cause irreversible color migration.
Caustic household chemicals should never be used to clean leather. Also to be avoided are leather preparations that contain alcohol.
Never spray perfume on or near any part of your j’Tote Designer Laptop Bag as this can loosen the dye and cause color bleeding.
Resist overfilling your handbag. Yes, it’s tempting, and yes, j’Tote Designer Laptop Bags are specially designed for carrying heavy laptops, cables, and day-to-day items, but overfilled leather handbags tend to lose their shape, as leather has the capacity to stretch naturally.
Turpentine and mineral spirits must be avoided as they can cause leather to discolor.
Avoid using waxes or silicone products on soft leather as they can clog the pores, making it impossible to oil and condition.
Fresh stains of blood or food items can be cleaned up with a damp cloth. Oil or grease stains can be cleaned by grinding ordinary blackboard chalk, sprinkling the area and leaving the powder on for a twenty-four hour period. To remove surface dirt, occasionally wipe gently with a damp cloth and polish dry to a soft luster. Stains can sometimes be removed by using a mild soapy solution, but not a detergent.
If the suede on your Afric or Alannah has been rain marked, allow it to dry naturally and then brush up with a suede brush.
