You are here: Home > The Story of J'tote

J'tote designer laptop bags were born out of fashion necessity. On one continent, Jeri Barr searched in vain for a fashionable bag to carry her laptop. On another continent, designer Anna Vahey Casey, was stitching up her own attention-getting laptop bag out of frustration at what she calls "the uninspirational, dull coffins" she found in the marketplace.

In the U.S., Jeri began seriously considering opening her own business dedicated exclusively to creating the gorgeous, high-fashion laptop bags she wanted for herself, to accessorize her fashionable clothing. When she spoke of her dream to a friend who does business in China, he told her that he'd met a young, mega-talented designer in Asia, who had designed her own stunning laptop bag.

He put Jeri in touch with Anna, and thus began J'tote. Aiming to launch the first collection in the Fall of 2006, manufacturing issues combined with the holidays delayed production until the Spring of 2007. At the same time in the spring, Jeri was diagnosed with an aggressive, non-operable breast cancer, which had alarmingly spread to other areas of her body.

With a strong determination to live and to see her dream become a reality, Jeri treated the cancer on every level—body, mind, and spirit—and was pronounced free of the disease in July, 2007, quite a feat! With her laptop bags ready to go, Jeri has now launched jtotebags.com, starring the most beautiful laptop bags the world has ever seen.

Jeri and her husband, Don Barr, have three grown children, and are co-founders of Candlelight Ranch, a charity which provides special needs children with exciting outdoor adventures on their 100-acre ranch on Lake Travis in Austin, TX. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each J'tote bag will go to the Candlelight Ranch Foundation to fund additional facilities and programs for the kids.
